I have just applied for an Online Account using your online application process. What happens next?

Thank you for applying! You will have been emailed a reference number which you will need to keep until you receive further written information from us - the reference number allows us to trace your account should there be any problems in opening it for you.

You will then receive two letters

  1. detailing your Online Account number, and
  2. detailing your Customer ID number (sent 3 days later)

These are sent separately for security purposes.

How do I log into my Online Account for the first time?

Logging in to your account for the first time is called activation. For security purposes, you will need to provide four pieces of information when you activate your account.

  1. Your Online Account Number (as per letter 1 from us)
  2. Your Customer ID Number (as per letter 2 from us)
  3. Your password (which you will have set up during the account application process)
  4. Your memorable word (which you will have also set up during the account application process)

Once you have this information to hand, you can activate your account by:

  1. Visiting www.saffronbs.co.uk
  2. Click on the Red 'Online Account Login' button at the top right of the page
  3. Scroll down to 'account activation' and click on the link 'activate my account'
  4. You will then be taken to our secure activation page where you can enter your details

I have activated my account. Do I need my memorable word again?

You will not need your memorable word when logging in to your account. However, should you call us with an account enquiry, we will use your memorable word to identify you (you will be asked, for example, for the second and third letter in your memorable word) so please do keep this word in mind - you will need your memorable word throughout the life of your account with us!

I have forgotten my memorable word. What do I do?

Your memorable word should be a place or name or in some cases a date. It is case sensitive and sensitive to spaces if you have used these when setting up your memorable word. If you still cannot remember your memorable word, please call us on 0800 072 1100 and we will send a secure copy to you in the post.

I've forgotten my password. What do I do?

Your password is case sensitive and can be made up of letters, numbers or a combination. If you still cannot remember your password, or are 'locked out' of your account, please call us on 0800 072 1100 and we will send a new password to you by post.

When you log back in to your account using the new password, you will be asked to change your password to something that you can remember. Once logged in, it is easy to change your own password at any time.

How can I make payments in to my Online Account?

There are three ways of making payments in to your account:

  1. By Standing Order (set up with your bank) - this is what you would normally set up via online banking with your bank
  2. Via Faster Payments (set up via your bank)
  3. Via transfer from an existing Saffron account

When paying in via Standing Order or via Faster Payments, please ensure that you reference the payments as follows:

Sort Code: 20-74-05
Account Number: 00775991
Roll or Reference Your 8-digit Online Account number which we have sent you and can be found online when you log in.

How long will it take for my money to reach my Saffron account?

Payments made by standing order should be paid in to your account on the 3rd business day after the money has been sent from your bank.

Faster Payments sent to your Online Account will be available in your account by the close of business on the day after the originating bank send it.

I specified an 'opening amount' when I applied for my Online Account but this money hasn't gone through to my Online Account. Why?

If you stated that you would provide the account's opening balance though transfer from an existing Saffron savings account, or by Faster Payment, you will need to instigate this once the account is opened.

How do I make withdrawals from this account?

You can make withdrawals from your online account to your nominated bank account or one of your Saffron accounts. When you request an amount of £100,000 or less to be sent to your nominated account before 1 p.m. on a business day, the money will be sent the same business day. Requests received after 1 p.m. will be sent on the following business day. Either way, the funds will arrive in your nominated bank account by the close of the business the day after your payment is sent.

Payments made over £100,000 will be sent as a BACS payment and this will take 3 business days to arrive in your nominated account. Please note - all transfers confirmed before 1pm will be processed by the end of that business day, all transfers made after 1pm will be processed on the next business day.

To withdraw money from your account you will need to log in, go to "Make a Payment" and follow the on screen instructions. The instructions will guide you through selecting an account in to which to make your payment, the amount you would like to withdraw, and the date and time you would like the withdrawal to happen. At the end of the process you will be asked to enter your password.

If you wish to transfer to another Saffron Building Society account, please use the "Transfer Money" link - the rest of the process is as detailed above.

Each withdrawal must be £10 or over.

How do I view and print a list of my transactions?

Log in to your account and click on 'account statement' - this will bring up a list of all your transaction details. If you wish to print these, please use the 'print' icon at the bottom of the page.

Once your account is closed, statements will no longer be available to print.
